Whole House Repiping and Pipe Replacement in the Treasure Valley

Galvanized steel supply pipe was standard in Treasure Valley homes for decades, and it was good pipe for its time. The problem is that it rusts from the inside. The interior diameter narrows year after year as corrosion builds until a three-quarter inch pipe passes water like a straw. That is the weak upstairs pressure and the shower that drops to a trickle when the washing machine fills.

The rust also travels, which is why you get brown water after the house sits, and it thins the pipe wall until joints and threads let go. Once a galvanized system starts leaking in multiple places, each repair is just the next reminder. You are not fixing a system, you are triaging one. At some point the repair money is better spent replacing it.

Polybutylene is the other material we recommend replacing on sight. It was used in some homes from the late 1970s through the mid 1990s and fails at fittings without much warning.

Both are good. PEX is flexible, which means fewer joints, faster installation and far fewer access holes in your walls, and it tolerates a freeze better than rigid pipe because it can expand slightly. It is also quieter and does not suffer the pinhole corrosion copper occasionally does.

Copper is rigid, proven, handles high temperatures, and some homeowners simply prefer it, especially for exposed runs in a mechanical room. It costs more in both material and labor, and it needs more open wall to install.

We plan the routing before we start, which is the single biggest factor in how much drywall comes out. Running through attics, crawl spaces and closets instead of straight through finished walls turns dozens of holes into a handful.

Access holes and patching scope are written into the quote: exactly how many, where, and whether patching is drywall-repaired, textured or painted. That is where repipe quotes usually hide their differences, so we make it explicit.
